Disease Control Cooperation between Thailand and Cambodia.

On 9 June 2016, Dr. Amnuay Gajeena, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), the Ministry of Public Health, said that on Monday 6th, the Thai DDC team visited Cambodia CDC team to boost cooperation on disease control. He said, the memorandum of understanding on assistance program for malaria and other vector-borne disease control for Cambodian which initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chaki Sirindhorn was signed since March 2008. Since then, it has been continually carried out until this day. The project of Her Royal Highness Princess has set up long time, continuous cooperation on public health especially on disease prevention between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand.

There were several visits and bilateral consultation between Minister of ministry of Public Health Thailand and minister of Ministry of Health Cambodia. On 24 February 2016, Prof. Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, the Public Health Minister, officially visited Minister of Health of Cambodia. In this visit, the two ministers had discussed on several health collaboration such as malaria elimination in border areas, health workforce development, training course for Cambodian health officers, cross border referral system and establishing the Sister Hospital piloted in 3 priorities (Kohkong-Trat, Bunjiaynjeoy-Srakeaw and Udornmeechai-Surin). Both countries have agreed that the discussion forum at national level will be held an annually basis in

order to follow up the implementation of activities at different level.

"In this visiting, we have an opportunity to share and discuss with Cambodia CDC about several areas of disease prevention and control activities, including surveillance, data sharing, malaria elimination, dengue control joint investigation, communicable disease control along border and referral system of patient across border. We hope our cooperative areas will be expanded to other areas in the future. I am sure that it will bring well being and betterment to people of both countries. I hope that, the discussion forum meeting among the Director Generals of two countries will be held once or twice a year. This meeting will facilitate the implementation of disease control activities among local health authorities of both countries.” said Dr. Amnuay. 

“Thailand is hosting ASEAN Dengue Day 2016 during 14-15 June 2016. In this event, there will be a parallel session of Special Policy Consultation Session. The meeting will allow the Director General of Department of Disease Control or equivalence from ASEAN member states to discuss about disease prevention and control in the region. Therefore, in this courtesy visit, the Thailand DDC invites the Cambodia CDC to participate in this special meeting too.
